Was it the beginning? Let's go back and take a look...
Women encouraging others to vote yes for women's suffrage.
Imagine yourself surrounded by hundreds of like-minded people, chanting for change and demanding progress. Men and women standing side by side fighting for the same thing doesn't seem unusual today, but back in 1848 it was virtually unheard of until mid-July in Seneca Falls, NY. The Seneca Falls Convention was the first event organized by women, which insisted on equality for all. The convention attempted to put emphasis on the importance of political change and laid the groundwork in its Declaration of Sentiments for future generations of women to continue to fight for equality by stating, “We shall employ agents, circulate tracts, petition the State and national Legislatures, and endeavor to enlist the pulpit and the press in our behalf. We hope this Convention will be followed by a series of Conventions, embracing every part of the country."(http://www.nps.gov/wori/historyculture/declaration-of-sentiments.htm)
