The Declaration of Sentiments
The signers of the Declaration on Sentiments.
The centerpiece of the Seneca Falls Convention was the Declaration of Sentiments. Mainly written by Elizabeth Stanton, this document followed the guidelines of the Declaration of Independence. Stanton’s document, however, stated that all men and women were created equal. In the Declaration she listed eighteen “repeated injuries and usurpations” against women throughout history. Some of the sentiments included statements such as, “He has made her, if married, in the eye of the law, civilly dead.” and “He has taken from her all right in property, even to the wages she earns.” (http://www.nps.gov/wori/historyculture/declaration-of-sentiments.htm)
The declaration was read on the first day of the convention by Stanton. On the second day the declaration was re-read, debated, and eventually signed by the attendees of the event. Out of the 300 men and women who attended, 100 people signed the document as true; 32 men and 68 women.

Resolutions

Stanton also developed and delivered a speech on what she aptly named Resolutions. In her eleven resolutions she demanded equality for men and women. Stanton’s Resolutions included eleven statements resolving moral, social and political equality. All but one of Stanton’s Resolutions unanimously passed. Resolution number nine, regarding a woman’s right to vote, needed extra encouragement from speeches made by Stanton and abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
